Petals From the Past
near Birmingham, AL http://petalsfromthepast.com
I was lucky enough to visit Petals from the Past in March 2012 and bought a Peggy Martin there. I was really impressed by their selection of not only own-root heirloom roses, but also of great perennials. These folks really know their stuff.
Now that I’ve seen it, I plan to stop there every time I drive through the area.
Antique Rose Emporium
Brenham, Texas, and also San Antonio, Texas https://www.antiqueroseemporium.com/
Most of the roses you see in the blog came from here, or from a cutting from one of Kate Black’s roses that she got here. This establishment was founded by the original Texas rose rustler Mike Shoup, and I think my hero Liz Druitt used to work there. The first time I visited my sister in Austin, we made a pilgrimage to the Brenham display gardens and store.
Heirloom Roses
Bellingham, WA http://www.heirloomroses.com/
The giant Awakening on my porch came from Heirloom Roses. They sell a lot of unusual and hard-to-find roses. Also they have a lot of miniatures and miniflora roses, which I’m wanting to start experimenting with, since I’m running out of space and can’t afford to buy the house next door and keep going.
Rogue Valley roses in Southern Oregon does own root also..Heritage roses has new owners and isn’t the same as it used to be. I started doing old own root about 20 years ago.Same with High Country roses..They used to have tons of old ones not as much as they used to now but also own root. New owners here too.
Any information to share on which varieties do best for you?
Deb, do you want to do a short (or lengthy) guest post on what works for you in Oregon?
